How it works

  1. Pick a format (Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, ITF-14, or Codabar) and type the value.
  2. Adjust width, height, colors, margin, and whether human-readable text is shown. Invalid digits get a clear error.
  3. Download PNG, SVG, or a US Letter PDF, or copy the image. Optional: paste a list and print an Avery-style label sheet.

Features

  • Runs entirely in your browser β€” free, no expiry, no signup
  • Check digits computed for EAN, UPC, and ITF-14
  • PNG, SVG, PDF, and copy-image
  • Bulk 3-by-10 label layout on US Letter
  • No scan tracking

Which barcode should I use?

Code 128 is the flexible choice for invoice numbers, SKUs, and mixed letters and digits. Code 39 is older and stricter (uppercase, digits, and a few marks). UPC-A is the 12-digit symbol on most US retail products. EAN-13 is the 13-digit cousin used worldwide. EAN-8 is a shorter retail code. ITF-14 is common on cartons. Codabar still appears on some library and logistics tags.

If you enter 12 digits for EAN-13 or 11 for UPC-A, this page adds the check digit. If you enter the full length, it verifies the check digit and tells you when it is wrong.

Who can use this

US sellers labeling bins, shipping rooms printing carton codes, and offices putting a Code 128 under an invoice number can generate a symbol without a barcode printer’s software. Pair a SKU barcode with a packing slip or a PDF invoice. For a phone-scannable link or Wi-Fi card, use the QR code generator instead.

US tips

Retail UPC numbers are assigned through GS1. Generating a valid-looking UPC does not give you the right to put it on a product you sell in stores. Use Code 128 for internal SKUs. Print at a size phones and scanners can read, and keep contrast high (dark bars on a light background).

These are static barcodes. We do not store the values you type.

Printing so scanners can read it

Quiet space (the margin around the bars) matters as much as bar width. If you crop the PNG tight, some scanners fail. Keep the human-readable text on if people will type the value when a scan fails. For a warehouse shelf, Code 128 at a modest height is enough. For a carton that will be scanned from a few feet away, make the bars taller.

The bulk label sheet is a simple 3-by-10 layout on US Letter, close to common Avery label spacing. Always print one test page on plain paper and hold it over a label sheet before you commit a full pack. Laser and inkjet printers scale slightly differently. If a label is meant for retail checkout, you still need a licensed UPC from GS1 β€” an internally invented UPC can collide with a real product.

Pair barcodes with documents you already use. Put the same SKU on a packing slip and on the unit. Put a Code 128 of INV-1001 on a printed invoice copy in the file folder. For a URL or Wi-Fi password, a QR code is the better symbol because phones open it without a specialty scanner.

Codabar still shows up on some library and blood-bank style labels; if you do not already use it, pick Code 128. ITF-14 is meant for cartons and wants 14 digits. EAN-8 is a short retail code, not a place to stuff an invoice number. When a format rejects your text, read the error β€” it is almost always the wrong character set or the wrong number of digits, not a broken download button.

Frequently asked questions

Is this barcode generator free?

Yes. Create barcodes and download PNG, SVG, or a Letter PDF at no charge. There is no signup and no expiry on the file you save.

Which barcode formats are supported?

Code 128, Code 39, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, ITF-14, and Codabar. The form validates input for each format and can add a check digit for EAN and UPC.

Are the barcodes generated on your server?

No. Barcodes are created in your browser. We do not store the values you type.

Can I hide the human-readable text?

Yes. Toggle the text under the bars, and adjust width, height, font size, colors, and margin.

What is a check digit?

EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, and ITF-14 include a final digit that checks the other digits. If you enter 12 digits for EAN-13, the tool adds the check digit.

Can I print a sheet of labels?

Yes. Paste a list or CSV and print an Avery-style 3-by-10 layout on Letter paper.

Do you track scans?

No. These are static barcodes. There is no redirect and no scan tracking.
